Should I get the 780 now or wait until the new 800 series comes out? I've heard that the 800 series will be faster and cheaper. Thanks for the help!

The gtx 8xx series is rumoured to be out in Q1 2015, but that might change. Now whether its worth waiting or not is upto you.
considering this http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-780-vs-GeForce-GTX-680 the current 7xx models are about 30-40% faster than the previous generation 6xx models, this trend is probably likely to continue with the 8xx models edging out the 7xx models by about 40% as well, however that is all speculation based on these results...

Now its upto you to decide how long you can wait for the maxwell gpu to come out to gain a 30-40% increase (possibly even more) in performance

if you can wait for maxwell till Q1 2015 for a rough 30% increase in performance and a significant decrease in power consumption and thus heat output.
The reference gtx 650ti has a TDP of 110w and requires a 6-pin connector http://www.geforce.co.uk/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-650ti/specifications however the reference maxwell-based gtx 750ti has a staggering TDP of 60w and requires no power connectors http://www.geforce.co.uk/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-750-ti/specifications


EDIT: Nvidia has also announced that maxwell will be based on a 16nm architechture rather than a 20nm, that is a big jump and performance increase will is also likely to increase by about 50-60% from current-gen 7xx cards

So, in conclusion, and will all that in mind, the 8xx cards will likely experience a power consumption reduction and performance increase of about 60% and possibly more, nvidia's future looks all bright and dandy right now, but its upto you to decide if you want to wait or not :)
