HI.

My beloved GTX 760 Recently ran into some issues. I sometimes get artifacts. Sometimes, the PC boots fine, and I can play a few games, but, also sometimes it boots and gets artifacts all over. I have never OC'D the card and I have always cleared out the dust. Sometimes, when the artifacting gets too bad, the nVidia drivers stop and then I have to manually switch the PC off, when, nine times out of ten, it boots with artifacts and sometimes it doesn't boot at all. I know that the drivers or clock settings are not to blame, as it gets artifacting in the BIOS. I have tried many methods to repair it like putting it in the oven to resolder the chips, which worked the last time, but then the next day, I fired the PC up and it had the dreaded artifacts again.

At this point I am thinking of giving up. I cannot RMA the card as it is well out of warranty, and I really don't have the money to buy a new 760 or upgrade.

Any help will be very appreciated.

System specs follow.

Amd FX-4170 At stock clocks,

nVidia GeForce GTX 760 (Upgraded from an ASUS HD 6850)

CiT 700w PSU. (Yeah, I know it's crappy, but it has lasted me around 2 years)

8GB DDR3,

ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 Mainboard.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi.

Thanks for the answers, but I am sure that my PSU is fine, as when I put in my ancient GTS250, it is very stable, and the difference in power between the two really isn't very much. Also, I only got 6 months warranty, as it came in a prebuilt HP PC which I gave to a family member, but I kept the GPU.

Any other solutions?

Thanks.

the 250 uses 145 watts and the 760 uses 170 watts, its only 25 watts but with a PSU with only 1 6 pin PCI-E connector at 700watts I question the actual watt and amp ratting of the powersupply.

can you post what the side sticker says about the voltage and amps? I cant find any stats online about that PSU

Hi.

Yeah. The PSU seems massively under powered. The PC with the 760 only works reliably when in safe mode, whereas, in normal Windows, My icons do not load and the start menu (Windows 7) Is empty (You can only see the aero effect). I have borrowed back my 6850 from my family member, plugged it back in, and it works fine, with furmark and everything. Because of the power difference between the 6850 and the 760, i'm presuming that the PSU cannot handle the 760's increase in power?

Also, it seems that the PC only boots without artifacts when the screen is not full sized (Black borders around the edge of the display) This happens in the BIOS also. I really don't know what it means, but as soon as it gets into Windows itself, it, yet again, does NOT show any desktop icons and start menu icons.

Do you think that i should go with a Corsair CX750 Modular?, Because i am going to upgrade my PC down the road, and it seems future-proof.
