system specs:
mobo: Asus P8P67LE
CPU: i7 2600K
GPU: Gigabyte HD 7970
RAM: Corsair 8gb DDR3
power supply: ATX 800w

Recently when I was using my computer, it shut off and a burning smell started coming from the case. It turned out to be my GPU/PCI slot. Now, the computer will turn on, but nothing will happen on screen and the burning smell will start drifting out of the case.

Here's a picture of the damage:

I do have another working GPU, though. Would I just be able to plug a different GPU into the other PCI slot, or do I need to get a new motherboard? I don't have a lot of money right now, so if I didn't need to replace the motherboard, then that would be great. But I don't want to keep using it if it's going to cause further damage.

Also, if I do need to replace my motherboard, what's a good and inexpensive option based on my specs? Is there anything cheaper than $150 that's still good quality and will fit my system?

New motherboard time. It may also have taken out the video card. Do not plug anything else into that slot.

Do you have any suggestions for a motherboard replacement that isn't super expensive? It looks like my mobo is $150 on amazon, and it's out of stock on newegg. I'm really low on money right now, so anything that fits my system specs and isn't too expensive would be awesome.

Depending on the warranty you may be able to get a replacement.

It looks like Asus motherboards have a 3 year warranty from what I could find, and unfortunately mine is a bit older than that.

would this fit my system and do a decent job performance-wise?

That should work just fine but be aware that you cannot overclock on a B series chipset.

Awesome, thanks. I'm fine with no overclock right now, I just want to make sure I can have a working PC for the time being until I can afford to upgrade or build a new one.
