I just got the Gigabyte r9 280x windforce x3 in 15 days and I kept monitoring the temps .. I get around 70~75c and after long game sessions "2hours" I get 80~85c while playing most of the games and get around 90~95c while playing some games "battlefield 3" and "Road Redemption".

My rig
FX-8350
Kingstone 8GB Fury
1TB WD Caviar Blue
Gigabyte 970a-ds3p
Gigabyte r9 280x "obviously"
SeaSonic M12II Bronze 620W 80 PLUS

I got cooler master K281 with only 2 120mm fans and one more place for one more 120mm fan
and would an extra 120mm fan on the side make a difference?

Solution
Try taking off the side panel and have a fan blowing air into the case.
or
You may want to go back to the store from where you got your gpu and try to ask for a replacement. It does sounds like it running hotter than expected.

I'm not sure what is the room temperature but my CPU idle temp is mostly 25~30 while 50~55 while gaming as I installed "zalman cpu cooler cnps10x optima" instead of stock cooler, and no nothing in the way of my front intake fan

btw thanks for the quick reply
