Quick question out of interest ~

Bit bored and this has always bugged me.
With my power supply, being fully modular, I'm using the supplied 8-pin to 6+2 x 2 cable up to the GPU.

I'm fairly certain that 6+2 pin cables are capable of carrying the same power level of an 8-pin, but what I'm not certain about is whether this cable, holding two of them, is capable of a similar amount (Ie, 2 x 8-pin). Considering it only uses one 8-pin slot on the PSU end.

It's not an issue now, given the relatively low power draw the the 7870, but I'm interested to know if in future, when opting for a 250-300w power house card, will I need to ditch this cable in favour of two 8-pins?

Solution
Depends on the gauge of wire and the total number of wires they used both inside and outside the supply. With thick enough wire you could use only two to send 150W.

Generally they underrate what the wires can handle in the first place, so you are probably fine either way.
