Hello all,

I have an AMD Phenom XII X4 945 Processor that I believe becomes a severe bottleneck at times and not during play games, but doing simple things such as using FireFox and Chrome.

I have an MSI 790X-G45 motherboard.

Running CPUID HWMonitor, I get the following results:

I also looked at the CPU under CPU-Z, and it shows:

I highlighted the clock speed in yellow. This used to flucuate, however, I turned down Cool n Quiet in the BIOS settings to stop this.

Do my CPU temperatures look right? Or is my CPU just being a bottleneck and it's time for an upgrade? I only have one case fan.

I don't want to spend any more money on this setup, unless its something cheap like a new cooler or more thermal paste.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Solution
your CPU is really hot. The Phenom II's should be run under 62°c max. I suggest using some compressed air and blowing out the cooler fins and removing all dust in the system. Next I recommend ( if there is a mounting place for it ) getting another fan. Have on for intake and one for exhaust. After doing this if the temps are still high, replace the thermal paste under the cooler. Next you could try to drop the CPU voltage and see if it will run stable at a lower voltage to try to cool it off. Example : I have a really good chip and my 965 can run stable at 1.25V @ stock frequency. I'm not saying you can do this but the motherboard trys to run it at 1.35V like yours. This causes extra heat but should be the last step in your case to try.

Hi,

your cpu should not be that hot if you are just running idol,Check the cpu fan and heat sink make sure its working and dust free. My 955 got hot like that but I was nearly up to 4GHz
