I have an MSI P55m-GD45. The specs state "Supports 1Gb/ 2Gb/ 4Gb DRAM size". What would happen if I put a single 8GB RAM stick in?

I tried to Google but I only get answers to questions about higher frequency not module size

If you have a 1x8GB RAM module, try it and see. It may or may not work. It's definitely not 100% guaranteed to work, but also not 100% guaranteed to fail as I've seen people getting a 1x8GB module working for a slot rated for 4GB.

If you don't have a 1x8GB RAM module, I don't recommend you wasting money just to test it.

Your motherboard supports upto 16GB DDR3 memory in 4 slots as (1*4, 4*4, 2*4, 2*2, 4*2 and so on...) It has got a dual channel architecture (2 different colors for 4 RAM slots) but it specifies DRAM size as 1/2/4 GB...
U cannot use 1 8GB stick, but it will be faster if you use (4*2)GB on similiar colored slots...

Thanks for the info, I tried it already because I'm impatient. Basically my friend gave me a Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600MHz ram stick. The PC boots up fine but the moment Windows starts to load I get blue screen. Now I'm not sure it thats because I need to OC because the Motherboard spec state:
"Supports four unbuffered DIMM of 1.5 Volt DDR3 1066/1333/1600*/2000*/2133* (OC) DRAM, 16GB Max" or if its because of the module size.

The RAM stick works fine, tested it in my brothers computer and there's no problems.
