I'm going to start to build my first gaming PC soon, but, I'm having problems with what power supply unit to use. I was originally going to use the Corsair CX 500w psu. However, people where recommending not to use CX units as they aren't good in the long run and it was better to get XFX or seasonic. Unfortunately, these units are a little bit pricey for me as I am on a budget and only found the XFX Pro 550w (Core Edition Code: P1-550S-UKB9) that was lower priced.

My question is should can I get away with the corsair cx 500w or should I spend more and get the XFX Pro 550w? Is there any other psu that is around about the same price that is of good quality and can last long?

My future gaming rig:
GPU: R9 270x,
CPU: FX 6300
Motherboard: M5A78L-M/USB3
Ram: 8gb HyperX
Hard drive: WD 1tb 3.5inch
dvd writer: Samsung 24x retail
Case: Zalman Z9 Plus (with 4 fans)

I don't know if I will OC in future but it is unlikely. Thanks,

Both are more than enough to power your system. I would certainly get the XFX 550W for the step up in build quality, plus the CX series aren't ideal for serious overclocking, while the XFX is fine to overclock whatever degree, mild or heavy.

Probably the only other suggestions for cheap, would be EVGA's new 500B/600B but they are more similar to the CX series than the XFX Pro. Which the XFX is likely the best bet if you want reliable Seasonic build quality on a budget.

The CX series are good enough but the XFX PRO550W is better in terms of longibility and durability. XFX PRO550W would be the best choice.
