Okay so i recently bought a graphics card which has a dvi-d port instead of vga. And I only have a vga monitor so I was wondering if a regular converter like this:http://www.amazon.com/Male-DVI-D-Female-VGA-Adapter/dp/... But from looking through the reviews i can't do it, so I'd rather just ask my for myself.

More about : video card converter

Most video cards come with these. And most video cards have one DVI-D and One DVI-I (the analog one that can be converted to VGA) If they don't have two DVI then they usually have One DVI, one VGA, and One HDMI or Display port.

If you provide your exact video card/motherboard you can probably get a definitive answer.

I have a Asus ATI Radeon HD6450 Silence 1 GB But instead of a DVI-I dual link I got the same card but with a DVI-D Dual Link

All the ones I see have the three connection type bracket. If the one you have only has the low profile bracket you are almost out of luck. If there is a 16 pin connector on the video card where the ribbon to vga adapter would normally go you can still use it.

See here for a picture of what the card should look like:

Here is what you can potentially use to make it work in the meantime.

If your card only has a DVI-D then you can't use that adapter since a DVI-D port does NOT output the analog signal needed for VGA.

If the chassis has a free slot, or anything large enough to fit the VGA connector through you can hook it up that way. There are longer cables out there, you can even run it out of the front if you wanted.

Switching out the monitor is an option, but you don't have to use HDMI, plenty of monitors still have DVI and more often then not don't include a cable. (If they do, usually VGA or DVI)
