I am installing a MSI 760GM p34 which is a 24pin Mobo, and I have two PSUs. I was wondering which one to use? One is a Coolmaster 600w but its a 20pin and if you look into the plug one of the holes dose not have a wire in it( looks like its supposed to be that way, i'm not sure though), and the second PSU is a 460w and its a 24pin. It also has four holes without a wire in them so i'm not entirely sure which one to use. I don't have a 20-24pin converter either. Also I dont realy need the 600w, the pc shouldn't require more than the 460w. thanks for your help.

The difference between 20 pin and 24 pin is simply more +3V, +5V, and +12V capacity. Other than that they are the same. With one exception... some older Dell PSUs were proprietary and had the plugs wired differently from standard. On a normal 20 pin/24 pin connector, all pins are wired. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CNv3Og2CLVY/T9SL7VnXU5I/AAAAA...
If yours is missing wires, it would depend on which ones were missing.

Since you don't state the rest of your system's components, it will be hard to come up with a definitive answer.

the system: MSI 760GM p34, GPU Radeon 7750 ( no power plugs, it runs completely off the mobo) AMD fx 4300 3.6ghz, a 1 tb hard drive

Do you want to know where in the pin line up that the wires are missing?

That would help, yes. And the make/model of the 2nd PSU.

hope fully this works, the ( . ) represents the ones with the wire and the ( o ) without.
the 600w 20pin:
. .
. .
. .
. .
. .
. .
. .
. o
. .
. .

and the 460w 24pin is:

. .
. .
. .
. .
. .
. o
. .
. o
. .
. .
. o
o .

the attachment to mobo clip is to the right

the 460w is a delta electronics inc, model: DPS-460CB C rev: 03 F

also the clip on the mobo is a bit lower than in the middle of the 24 pins, so much so that the 20 pins clip( which is in the center of the 20 pins) lines up with it, if the 20 pin are as low as they can be, not sure if this maters.

so it looks like the 24 pin is missing: a 3.3v, two 5v and a GND. while the 20 pin is missing a 5v.

It "appears" that the 20 pin is missing the -5V and the 24 pin is missing the -5V, +5V, gnd, and +3V
On the 20 pin, it would seem the MB it was connected to did not use the -5V circuit.
On the 24 pin, it would seem the MB did not need the -5V either. It also did not need the extra current carrying capacity of the +5V and +3v circuits.

You can try either one and see if the system boots, but if it were me, I'd opt for a new PSU. As long as you know the PSU did not come from a Pentium III era Dell.

i think they are both from old costom built systems the 460w (delta electronics) was with a HP mobo and the 600w( coolmaster) was with a asus
