PC not booting to BIOS

A couple of weeks ago the PC that I built less than a year ago would not boot up. Not even to BIOS. I am not getting any beeps except the startup beep. The fans run and it does sound like the HD is being accessed. I also tried to boot with the OS DVD, no luck. I am also not getting power through the USB to the keyboard or mouse. I thought it was the MB or CPU. I bought a new MB but no luck. I am thinking it's the CPU but before I buy a new one I wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas. It's an AMD FX6300 so it's not hugely expensive but I don't want to throw away an hundred bucks either. Thanks.

Solution
I've never seen a fried CPU kill the power. I would put a 90% certainty that the power supply died.

Try a different power supply. They're usually the first thing to go.
the first thing to come to mind is a dead gpu. sounds like that or bad ram... one or the other. dead cpus typically don't let the system power on at all... you hit the power switch and NOTHING happens.

You can test the ram by pulling out both sticks, put one back in, and try it in every slot on the board. power on the computer and see if it starts. if it fails with the first stick try the second... by itself, one boot for every slot... if your system powers on you know it's the stick of ram you're not using.

As for the gpu... the easiest way to test it is to put it in another computer... or try a 2nd gpu in your computer.

Why a dead gpu? Wouldn't I still get power through the USB ports to the keyboard? I don't get a light on the keyboard for caps or num lock or a light for the mouse.

nope. typically your system won't even POST with a dead gpu plugged in. it has to do with the fact that when a gpu goes it typically causes some sort of power short, and all you need is one short to prevent a system from booting.

i would go down the list and test everything to eliminate the problem .. happen to me before

1- reset your Cmos -- unplug your power, take the batter out, take your ram out.. wait 1 or 2 min.. see if that the problem.
( use memtest86+ CD if you set your comp to boot into CD first) because even with bad ram this will able to boot up to see

2- try on another display ( if ok)

3- the GPU ( if your board have on board then use it or borrow some one)-- i use to buy a cheap one then return next day

4- now the powersource

5- ram

6- at this point if you can go into Cmos then CPU or your Mother board is ok..

hope this help

You said "I am also not getting power through the USB to the keyboard or mouse". Power supplies have several voltage rails. 12V, -12, 5V, -5, 3.3V. Any one could go and the motherboard won't function properly.
