What about core clock and memory clock?

Hi everyone

I'm about to overlock my graphics card in my old laptop. I've downloaded MSI Afterburner because of it's easy use. It's also my first time overclocking a pc.
I don't really know how I use the program, is there a connection between the core clock and the memory clock?
And in what mhz do I have to change it every time? Is it like 10 mhz each time, or can I go higher with that?
Also what are the importent things to change when overclocking a graphics card.

My graphics card is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 Series.

Overclocking by a very small amount will not have you see a discernible increase in performance, and getting something like an external laptop cooler (which you have) will help, but probably not enough for you to overclock where you would see a decent improvement in performance.

Ok, here is breakdown but first you should know its a terrible idea to overclock a laptop, they have minimal cooling and are best left at stock speeds as the risk of damaging something during overclocking on a laptop is very high.

Core clock and memory clock are different things, simply put core clock is the speed of your GPU the higher it goes the faster your GPU, but going to high can damage or fry it completely.

Simply put, memory clock is the speed of your GPU's memory it's usually higher than your core clock and in my experience doesn't effect performance as much, same applies here going to high can break things.

Their is no solid number by which you have to increase clocks by, monitor your temps and load (especially temps) and see what they are, from that decide incrementally how high you want to go, but don't rush things getting sloppy is not good.

Again I really wouldn't overclock a laptop.

About the cooling, I've got extra cooling underneath my laptop. I can also buy some extra cooling if that makes sense.
Would this be enough? Or can I overclock it only a bit? If so would I see any difference in performance?

And thank you for explaining me what core and memory clock actually are.
