MoBo fan controller or case fan controller????

I'm just finishing off my first build and there are a few wires coming of my case that I've not been able to home. My case is a Define R4.

The wires look like they go into the front fan controller which is just a 3 way switch 5/7/12V. The wires themselves are a 4 pin Molex and the 3 * 2 pin male sockets that I think are fan connectors. I can't see any connector from my motherboard to the fan controller so think it would just be all on or all off with 3 speed variants (would this be likely?)

I have 3 fans in my build, 2 in the case + the main CPU. they are all 3 pin female connectors plugged into 4 pin male connectors on the motherboard.

If I'm right I could unplug them from my motherboard and plug them into the case controller, but wouldn't I be better keeping them connected to my motherboard so they can come on when needed rather than being controlled by a manual switch?

Only benefit I can see of the manual case controller is being able to reduce the fan power if I'm watching a movie or something like that and want a bit of quiet.

If I'm right I'm debating putting the front fan on the manual controller so I can sort of get the best of both worlds. Would that make sense??

Many Thanks.

The fan controller should have a Molex connector to plug into the PSU and a couple 3 pin fan connectors to plug the case fans into. That would be the preferred way to go for control over fan speed and noise.

The problem with using the MB fan headers for the case fans is that the headers are 4 pin for PWM fans. When you plug in a 3 pin (non-PWM) fan, it will always run at full speed no matter what the settings in BIOS are for the fans headers.
