Hello all I'm a big PC gamer, I mostly play dayz/bf3/bf4. My current sound setup is a sound blaster z, astro mixamp and Siberia v2s. My Siberia's are on there way out and I'm looking for something to replace them.

My budget to replace them will be as high as £250/$400. I was hoping someone could recommend what would be best to go with my current setup. I'm thinking of just getting some a40s but I was wondering if there is anything any better than them? I've heard great things about sennheiser headphones, is there a pair that would fit best for me?

seeing as how you do not like desk microphones.... you may definitely be interested in the modmic which attaches a boomic to any pair of headphones.

the hd598 has a wide soundstage with a more high/med focused sound with some, but not a whole lot of bass presence.

the ad700x is quite similar but doesnt really have much bass. the ad900x is clearer and more refined than the 700 with a bit more bass

the dt880 is fairly neutral with a decent but not huge soundstage.

the dt990 isnt as neutral with more of a fun high/low recessed mids style but has good soundstage, great clarity but it can be a bit too bright on highs if you dont like that kind of thing.

also within your budget of $400us may be the pc363 or mmx300 headsets by sennheiser...
read the "headphone types" section of the guide in my signature link titled headphones. the rest of the guide isnt done yet.

google for "tomshardware ssddx headphone headset" and review some posts of mine on this issue to get a good idea what i've said in previous threads.

let me know what kind of sound profile you like. (neutral, treble heavy, bass heavy, v-shape with subdued mids more treble and bass)

let me know what you think about soundstage. small soundstage is more direct with more bass and slightly less clarity. large soundstage is airy and ambient with better directionality. think of closed headphones (small soundstage) as lighting to a band in a small club room while open headphones (wide soundstage) as listening to the band in a park.

do you want a boom mic mounted to the headphones or is a desk mic better for you?

Desk mic is a no no, my house can get quite busy, don't need all the crap in the background being picked up. I prefer over ear style, and a neutral profile, maybe a little more on the bass side. Directional awareness is a must for me, being able to pin point a sound is what I'm really looking for.

I read some of your threads and the hd598s do sound good but, I'm not a fan of the design. I think I may go for the Sennheiser G4ME Zero
