I know it would be better to go wired connection for gaming, but I don't do games like Battlefield 4 or any ultra-intensive multiplayer matches. Anyways, what is a decent wireless adapter for preferably around $20? My router is a Linksys router if that matters. I want to be able to download steam games relatively quickly and play online in Minecraft and steam games. This was my old PC and its wireless connection was wonderful:

If anyone could recommend an adapter similar to my old integrated one (from the link above) that would be awesome! Also, is 5GHz necessary for downloading and gaming online fast? Or is 2.4GHz enough? Thanks all! If anyone wants my PC build here it is: (The wireless adapter obviously has not been a for-sure choice yet).

2.4 or 5 is the freq the wireless signal runs on, 2.4 is generally better for distance or where there are numerous walls involved, 5 is better for being close (PC to router), this is a very good one

These are less and popular

The first one is way out of budget, and I would prefer the PCI Express x1. How about this one?

Also does it matter what router I have vs. what wireless adapter? Does it have to be the same brand, for example Belkin and Belkin? Or could the router be Belkin and the adapter be TP-Link? By the way, I have just one wall away from the router, it's right outside the door.

That should work, as far as brands, no shouldn't matter, I keep a collection of different adapters around for people to try/use and to have available if needed for classes and right now I use a trendnet router and have none of their adapters, all the others work fine.

Thanks, as of right now I think I'll stick with that one. I hate spending this much on an adapter but if it gets the job done then I'll be satisfied.
