Can you use a solid GPU Backplate on a non-watercooled card?

Hey everybody

So I think the title sort of explains it all, but I was going to buy a backplate for my GTX 780 with the stock cooler, and I was wondering, do I have to buy the backplate that EVGA sells with holes in the center like this:

Or can I buy a solid backplate sold by EK like this:

I am obviously not water-cooling (not now at least), but I wanted a backplate for some better aesthetics. Please let me know what you guys think!
