Hello all,

I just purchased a Supermicro 933T server used. The specs are as follows.

  • ■ PSU: Two (2) 760W plus one (1) redundant
    ■CPU: 2x AMD Opteron 250 2.4GHz.
    ■Motherboard: SuperMicro H8DAE rev. 1.11
■RAID: LSI SATA 300-8X and LSI 6-port Controllers

Currently the fans in there are LOUD. I know in some cases with servers we can swap in 120mm fans, although there isn't enough room in this case. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations to quiet this server down.

Solution
Those things are intended to run in unmanned rooms or enclosed equipment racks. The standard way to 'quiet' them is to not be in the same room.

If you are handy with tools, you could craft some sort of duct to fit 120mm fans on the front and remove the small internal fans.

I know 4U cases can be silenced, but do you know of any fans that are quieter that fit in the case, I am not handy with tools.
