Which should i buy in order to get max performance for PC gaming??

Hi im some what new to PC. first I should tell you my setup:
Radeon AMD 7750 2gb ddr3(not very good)
AMD Athlon x4 620 2.4 ghz
6gb of ddr2 ram. I just bought 8gb of ddr3 but it doesn't fit my motherboard so im upgrading that.
So im trying to decide whether I buy a r9 280x or buy a i5 4670k. im not sure which would boost my speed cause I just wanna play bf4 and arma 3 better. I would really appreciate the help

Graphics cards are more often the inhibitor for game FPS than the CPU. I usually suggest you use CPU-z and GPU-z or Open Hardware monitor and Task manager to see which component in your current rig seems to be nearest 100%.

Looks like you need a new video card AND a new cpu. I would get a new video card first. What kind of psu do you have? You may need to upgrade that too.

I have a 800 wat power supply which seems like a bit of overkill. so a while ago I remember learning that if you have say an expensive gpu but a cheap cpu then it wont do anything because the cpu is restraining it. would the 280x or gtx 770 do that to my cpu??

Exactly What power supply do you have? The wattage doesn't mean much if the unit is too cheap.

That cpu will hold back a 280x or 770, but you would still get much better overall performance than with your 7750.

Yes you will still need to get a better cpu sooner or later.

Any 3Ghz Intel Core i5 CPU (except maybe 1st gen) is enough for even a R9 295x2 or Titan Z. They only really bottleneck once you start SLIing or Crossfiring top-end GPUs.

So if I buy a nice CPU like a 4690k will my GPU bottleneck the processor??

It wouldn't really bottleneck the cpu per say, but you would be maxing out the 7750 all the time. A better video card would help better than a better cpu.
