GPU won't work.

I build my first computer today and it has been so stressful. I put the CPU in and the RAM and everything worked fine I got into BIOS and then I install windows 8.1 on an SSD. Then I shutdown the system did not unplug it which was my first mistake and I put in the GPU into the mobo. The system starts up and shuts down 3 seconds later then restarts and then its fine but I am not getting any display I have an A2 IDE detect error showing up on my motherboard and I have no idea what that is. To be honest I don't think not unplugging the PC did anything harmful because when I removed the GPU and started the system again with only the CPU everything was fine like before. But the problems start when I put in the GPU. As I said I am not getting any display on the monitor. I am using a HDMI cable and I am using my HDTV. I have tried putting the HDMI into the gpu to see if it switched the display output and again using the motherboards HDMI socket but either-way there was no picture. My PSU is a Corsair RM850, motherboard is a MATX Asus Maximus vi gene, CPU is intel i7 4770k, RAM g.skill ripjaws Z 16gb (2x8gb), GPU is XFX r9 290.

I should note that maybe it is a problem between the PSU and the GPU as the GPU has a 6pin and an 8pin socket for power and I have plugged the 6pin of a 6+2 into the 6pin socket and both the 6+2pin into the 8 pin socket. Note that these are two separate cables but these cables also split into another 6+2pin. So perhaps I need a dedicated 6pin with no split? and a dedicated 8pin with no split?

Arghhh this is sooo frustrating and yeaa what the hell is the A2 error

The PSU cables aren't a problem - they're specifically designed for modern, high-powered GPUs. The splitter cable is designed so that if you're running multiple GPUs which each require a 6+2 and a 6 pin plug, you don't have half-a-dozen GPU power cables filling up your case. With the RM850, you only need one cable from the PSU - it'll have an 8-pin connector on the PSU side and two 6+2 pin connectors on the other that plug into your card.

Your HDTV displays without the GPU installed, correct?

Yes the HDTV does display without the GPU installed

Not to be insulting, but did you follow the installation instructions that came with your R9? Many people expect it to be plug-n-play, but there are a couple of critical steps that have to be taken before it'll work right (stuff like disabling your onboard graphics).

Lol its quite alright, but to answer your question..I bought two r9 290's second hand and they each came with two manuals one of them was very much a plug and play and the other was a driver installation walkthrough, but I can't exactly use this considering there is no display.

In regards to your first post about using just one cable with the split, I will try that tomorrow as I have already packed everything away. I was running the setup up without a case and just using the motherboard box.

Ok here is an update my GPU that I was using the XFX r9 290 Black double dissipation OC edition 980Mhz got the error code A2 and so I swapped it from my XFX r9 290 core edition and now I have error code 62. This is ridiculous is my PCI-E slot busted or something? Put it in the other PCIE slot and got error A2 again. ALso I am pretty sure I have no audio... nothing is coming out of the speakers.
