So, I have an AMD FX-8350 with M5A99X EVO mobo. After installing the back plate and stand offs, I found that the retention bracket was not going in evenly so easily, after adjusting it, i found it easier, but when I alined the heatsink and started screwing one side, I moved to the one diagonally across to find that it was really high up. I had to use A LOT of pressure to get the screws in there. Then my fan was lightly touching the Corsair Vengeance RAM (High profile).

I wanted to mount it horizontally so it blows air towards the exhaust fan in the back, but I couldn't get the retention bracket (the X thing) to make it work with the stand offs. Help, how should I arrange the bracket?

the X thing can go in 2 way ... make sure it the right way for your cpu ... i know it weird .. but from what you said .. i think you put in the X the wrong way. you can set the fan blow to the top or the side .... and that what make the X go in which way it need.

the best is test the X on your mother board first .. that way you see how the X go ...

now you can put in the cooler which ever way you want .. as long as the X and your mother board doesn't change.
i know .. it take little to get use to.

good luck.

best to put the cooler on when the board out of the case and also might have to put in the ram first before put on the fan

Yeah haven't gotten my case yet. Honestly, I'm really paranoid, I'm scared I damaged my cpu while screwing the bolts for the X bracket.

I tried so many different ways for like 30 minutes, but the heatsink could only sit in my mobo one way and that was vertically blowing air towards the top, I want it going to the back. I had to remove and reapply thermal paste 4 times.

Regardless, Thanks for the reply, I appreciate that much, I'm going to have another go at it tomorrow, but in terms of the mounting bracket taking too much force to screw in, do you think I should re seat the stand-offs or was that normal? Oh and what about the middle bolt, should I loosen that a bit or tighten it to get it to fit the way I want?

the way the bracket it ... you actually can rotate the cooler few degree after it on .. this scare me little but i contact the 212evo and that said that is normal and try not to turn it ,,, hehehe

they shouldn't take that much force .. just because of the spring make it seem like lot of force. if your temp is OK ... you don't need to reset.

i loose the middle bolt a little .. then tight it up after the cooler secure on cpu and before yo put the fan in

don't forget your ram clearance .. might need to put in before the fan depend what ram you got
