Can I use the 6 pin to 8 pin adapter with GTX 780 classified ?

Hi everyone .
I have an EVGA GTX 780 Classified Card.
There are two 8 pin connectors.
But my mac pro 2009 just have two 6 pin cable.
so....can I use the 6 pin to 8 pin adapter with my Graphic Card ?

but....Mac pro PSU can be replaced ?
or the new SPU have to as an extra SPU ?

It's mac pro 4,1 , 2009 , 8-core 2.26GHz.
I don't know what PSU in it.
but the psu maybe is 980W at least.(according to other forum's discussion.)
