My external HD Maxtor DiamondMax 21 went use it the other day. Plugged it in ans the fan came on the on/off swich just start

Well I pretty much explained it in the heading.
It doesn't do anything of course the fan works, but besides that the power lite keeps flashing. I listened and could hear a ticking sound like a watch.. So what would you recommend? thanks for your help

Test it for drive failure with SeaTools: http://www.seagate.com/gb/en/support/downloads/item/seatools-win-master/

The ticking sound could mean the read/write heads have crashed into the platters and become jammed there.
There's no fix for that except a new drive.
