My old motherboard or cpu bombed out on me so I just bought an i5 4670k and an msi z78-g43 motherboard. I have 2x 4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600 memory sticks. And I can only boot with 1 or both sticks in slots 3 and 4. I try boot in dual channel (slot 1 and 3 or 2 and 4) and screen stays black when I try boot. I try boot with stick in slot 1 or 2 and black screen... slot 3 and 4 work perfectly it seems which leads me to think the slots 1 and 2 are faulty.

I would just like to know what you guys think. I am currently running 8GB of memory in slot 3 and 4, no dual channel.

Is the motherboard bad and what should I do next?

Thanks a ton

Have u tried updating the bios? It might work. If it does not, then the mobo is faulty.

A bios update wont fix faulty ram slots, this is definitely a faulty mobo.

Thanks, was just wanting a second opinion. It is so frustrating buying brand new computer parts and then it turns out they are faulty. Last time it was a bad xfx hd 4890 (faulty display ports) and now bad ram slots.

Anyways, thanks a lot, will sort it out this week.
