Hi,

I'm looking at having a dual monitor setup and I'm not quite sure what graphics card and motherboard i need. I was thinking a graphics card with about 3gb memory and a motherboard that allows future upgrades/expansions.

for that system a gtx 770 or r9 280x up to a gtx 780ti or r9 290x would do it justice.
if you dont want to spend that much then a 650ti or hd 7770 would be the bare minimum i would recommend to get playable frame rates in them games.
you may be better off going with a cuda based card for rendering as a lot more apps support nvidia by default than amd for gpu rendering. if your happy just to use the cpu for it then any manufacturer will do.
