how do I play game on windows 8.1 that requires XP or Vista

purchased the game Treasure Island on disc - box says DirectX 9.0 sound card. Am trying to install it, requirements are XP or Vista and we have 8.1 - cannot install - have DirectX 11 version

A
Right click the game's icon or launcher then click properties and click on compatibility tab then tick run this game in compatibility mode and choose the O.S click on apply and play the game. It should run it .
