Greetings...on July 5th my internet useage spiked to between 150-180 GB daily using the Time Warner meter....prior to this date, my useage was 8-10 GB daily. now, even with the router unplugged (at night), I am showing traffic at 8GB/hr. I been to TWC customer service and they said I am uploading large files. we don't use torrent programs. We have a couple of Windows machines used rarely, chrombox and chromebook and couple of Roku boxes. We virus scanned everything and the machines are clean. The router has strong password protection. So, this morning I downloaded Bitmeter OS and have been monitoring my network and show a(my) normal traffic load while the TWC monitor still shows high internet useage. Any suggestions?

Solution
Disconnect all systems, but one (with the monitoring tool and with a browser to your router's traffic monitoring tools open). Start monitoring.

Then, reconnect one system at a time to see if you can isolate the issue. It is likely not a Chromebook or Roku device causing the problem.

Also, when you have only the single system connected, check the router for the connected devices. Make sure someone hasn't joined your network without your knowledge.

Good luck!
