Let's just jump straight into the problem. I just bought a new PC, custom made (Details below). I'm pretty sure it should run most games smoothly, but when I try to play any even remotely graphically intensive game the GPU rapidly heats up to somewhere around 87 degrees Celsius (185 F), after which I get this message: 'Display driver AMD driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered.', and then the game crashes. That all takes about 5 minutes and that isn't enough to play any game :p

I've kept track of the CPU temperature during all this as well and it's doing fine, the game also hardly takes up any processing power. I'm 90% sure it's something to do with the graphics card, but I just can't figure out what. I've tried updating the drivers several times to no avail and I'm just clueless as to what to do. I'd greatly appreciate any help you guys can offer :)

Specs:
CPU: AMD FX(tm)-8320 Eight-Core Processor
CPU Speed: 3.5 GHz
RAM: 8.1 GB
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Edition (build 7600), 64-bit
Video Card: AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series
Sound Card: AMD High Definition Audio Device
Free Disk Space: 277.1 GB

The game I've been trying this with recently is Heroes VI, which this PC should be running fine.
I'm really bummed that my brand new PC can't even handle this :s

Tell me if you need anymore details!

Well 87 degrees is a high temp it shouldn't heat that much. Check the cooling of the PC . I dont think the component is faulty as when there is a serious increase in temp the card stops working to protect it from overheating and damaging itself.

Just saw the game's requirements and it should not heat up the graphic card so much. Well have you tried other games and does it still happen with other games? (try all games on low setting). Scan your computer for viruses or bitcoin miners.
If other games work then problem is with Heroes 6 . If not then ask the maker to try other graphic card of the same model to check if it is faulty.

His GPU heats up and thats unlikely and gpu have factory made fans with them.Reaching 87 degrees with a game like heroes6 is unlikely. As even my gpu while playing battlefield 4 and no extra fan doesn't reaches 87 degrees.

@wiz0r96
What cpu cooler do you have?
Room temperature?
CPU temperature at idle and in game?
What is your gpu? HD 7970 or 7950?
Did you overclocked gpu?
Is performance limited in other games or just that game?
What version of AMD drivers are you installing/installed?

Sorry, was playing league, which works fine
I'll try to answer your questions now:

What cpu cooler do you have?
A CoolMaster Hyper T4

Room temperature?
around 30 degrees Celsius at the moment

CPU temperature at idle and in game?
I'll assume you meant GPU here: idle temperature is around 55 degrees

What is your gpu? HD 7970 or 7950?
it's an 7970

Did you overclocked gpu?
Didn't overclock it

Is performance limited in other games or just that game?
it has had similar problems with Guild Wars 2 and Civilization V

What version of AMD drivers are you installing/installed?
14.4
