Hello, first time on this site and forum. Wanted to share my experience with everyone and perhaps get some help. I am on my second Z97 motherboard. Had no major issues with the first one until I installed my ATI Raddeon R9 295X2 graphics card and at the same time the ThunderBolt EX II card that comes with the motherboard (ASUS Z97 Deluxe). Upon powering up I immediately did not have video and the system would not boot, continuously going to error 55.
Tried everything. removing the cards one at a time, removing other components, Clearing the CMOS, Re-flashing the BIOS, booting up from older bios, etc etc.
Called ASUS and they could not really help advising me to return the card to the merchant and get a replacement. Which is what I did at a 20% restocking fee.
Received the replacement three days ago. Everything was working great. Installed the RADDEON and no issues. It was not until I installed the Thunderbolt card that comes with the motherboard that the system did the same thing. can not boot up and hangs on 55 error.
I know that is reflective of memory but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the memory.
Both motherboards worked fine until the Thunderbolt EX II card was installed. Again called asus and am RMAing this one. Needless to say I will not be installing the Thurnderbolt card on the board. If you've had the same issues and came up with a resolution please share. If not, and are building a similar set up, watch out for and avoid the Thunderbolt add on card that comes with this motherboard.
thx

I agree, that's why I was suggesting a different PCI-E.....don't know...haven't used one of those yet, so not sure - might try raising the VCCSA voltage prior to installing the TB card, take it to 1.14 or so (that's the system agent voltage)

Hello,
ASUS Z97 Deluxe Motherboard
Intel 4970K processor
32GB (4X8GB) Corsair Dominator Platinum memory
Sapphire ATI Raddeon R9 295X2 graphics card
Corsair AX1200i Power supply
Corsair H100i water cooling for CPU
512GB Samsung PRO SSD drive
500GB Samsung SSD Drive
1.2TB Hybrid WD Drive (120SSD and 1TB regular)

It all worked flawlessly until the ThunderBolt EX II card (which comes as an option with the Z97 Deluxe Motherboard) was installed. Very frustrated as this was my first PC build, and although I initially (first motherboard) had some issues with the bios and then windows 8.1 install, I got it all to work until the Thunderbolt card was put in.
With the second motherboard, it all went very smoothly. Had the system working for 3 days and then decided to finish it, put the thunderbolt card in, lock up the chassis, etc.

Hey,
thank you for the suggestion.
Yes, I've removed the Graphics Card, and all other peripherals and tried different slots.
the motherboard goes through a sequence and locks in at the 55 error code.

Yes. this problem happened twice with two different boards.
I know code 55 implies memory issue, but I assure you it's not.
Something happens to the board when the Thunderbolt card is installed.

yes, I have tried one stick. Two, four, etc
