I am building a computer and I have an older 480 Watt PSU that I would like to use. The problem is, that it only has one 4 pin cable to plug into the motherboard, whereas this motherboard has an 8 pin adapter.

Computer Specs:
Asus M5A97 R2.0

AMD FX 8320

A stock LOW power gfx card (Pulls from pci-e power no extra cables for it) AMD hd 7570

couple hdd drives

Dont really plan to overclock unless I get a new PSU down the road. Will a 480 be enough and will a 4 to 8 pin adapter work for the motherboard?

Thanks for your time and advise!

Definitely replace it. Try a Corsair CX600. For just a media server, that PSU will do great and for a very good price. If you buy it before 7/21, you get a free $10 off and with the mail-in-rebate, the price of the power supply is only $34.99.

I would highly suggest a new psu. Despite the fact that model is way outdated. Its low quality and can only output 216w on the 12v rail. That's is not going to be enough for a system with a 8320 even with a low power gpu. You'd be running that psu on the edge of not over it and given the quality of the unit the results will most likely be disastrous.

Thanks for all your tips and contributions, I wish I would have came here a few days ago when I did a part buy for a different computer. Would have saved me some money. I think I will go for the 600W corsair, I just got one a week ago and I have had no issues at all its quite and has long cords for a full sized tower. Thanks again!
