Ill keep it short and simple. I am trying to find out why I cant play games like Far Cry 3 on the highest settings without my frame rates taking a huge hit. I have tried researching and doing this on my own but I must admit I am truly at a loss. Any help would mean a lot. Thanks everyone

Heres my gear:

HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G Sata 3 HD
AMD FX-6300 Vishera 6-Core 3.5GHz
GIGABYTE GA-970A-D3 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s mobo
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
SAPPHIRE 100352-2L Radeon HD 7950 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5
CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX850 V2 850W power supply

It may sound a little harsh but I think you're expecting a little too much out of that system, it's a strong build but a little short of full ultra settings in those very demanding titles, try dropping down from the top preset to the next one down, most of us can't see much difference between ultra and very high but the frame rate penalty can be heavy.

Right now the system is fairly well balanced so any upgrade would entail a swap to an Intel i5 and a jump to a GTX780 or R9 290 class of card, in my opinion, money you really don't need to spend.

The other option would be to add a good CPU cooler and overclock the existing CPU, the games you've mentioned so far are all hard on that part so any extra performance you can get out of it...

You should be able to play FC3 at a reasonable frame rate with everything maxed out. I would also use a frame counter such as Fraps mentioned above to see what you are performing at. Turning down Anti Aliasing will also allow you to perform high graphics settings with not much noticeable difference if you were to cut it down to 4x or 8x. That is just a helpful work around though.

Yeah thats basically what happends with me. 75fps out in the wooded areas. When in a large town or theres a lot going on (enemy vehicles arriving and gunfights) it will drop as low as 17fps. AA turned to 2, and settings on Ultra.

Pretty much the same happened in Bioshock 3. Framerates dropped when a lot was going on, such as gun fights. Obviously these games require good gaming gear if the settings are way up.

I guess my question is, out of the gear I listed, what would be the next thing I should look at upgrading to help increase framerate? Thanks again everyone for chiming in

And BTW, I don't get 75 FPS in FC3...Anywhere, guess my old i5 750 really is starting to show its age. :(
