Is it gone for good or is there still hope?

So, bit of a long story. I came back from a 1 week vacation to my 4 month old custom built rig. I've been having no trouble with it before. When I came to boot it up, I accidentally clicked the reset button on the case. "Oh, well," I thought because I didn't and still don't have any idea what this switch does. I continued to boot it up, pressed the power button and started using it until about 30 seconds in - boom. Nothing. Everything dies and the screen goes black. I got scared and quickly disconnected the power. Now, after I've plugged it back in, I get absolutely nothing when I press the power button, no lights, no fans, nothing. Any ideas on what went wrong and how to fix it? Could it just be a dead psu?

I'll take any suggestions I can get, I'm kind of frantic.
Thanks for your time.

Hi

The reset button sends a signal to the motherboard which forces the PC to shutdown then restart.

This should not break the PC.

maybe a fuse has blown somewhere, or the PSU has failed.

In UK we have fuses in the mains plugs and in trailing sockets, as well as the fuse for each mains circuit .
Also check power cable is pushed firmly into socket in power supply, sometimes they come loose.

When you say custom built PC did you build it or someone build it for you.?

If someone built it for you ask them to test it & fix it.

If you built it you probably have the skill to test and replace the PSU

well i think your psu had died check your system with a different psu if u dont have a spare then borrow it from someone just for checking if it works the buy a new psu...and pray its only the psu because sometimes sudden psu failures are caused by short circuit and the psu dies and takes the motherboard along with it ...

Thanks. I built it myself and I'm in the process of testing the psu. Unfortunately, All the wires are in a black sleeve for looks and I can not locate the "green wire" for the paper clip test. If anyone knows which is the green wire on a 24 pin Seasonic X-750w I'd love to know. Thanks for your help Mike.

remove every thing all psu cables from mobo ,ram, processor, gpu,hd cables, dvd drive cables, front panels ports power led reset led hdd led etc...open the bios batter for 5 min and then reset every thing if it still doesn't run and your psu is fine then the mobo is dead..

Hi

Reset Cmos (usually a jumper) if CMOS gets corrupted may fail to boot
[You must disconnect mains power cable when clearing CMOS, not sure why but all user guides give warning of possible damage]

Quick test with paper clip does not prove PSU OK but failure proves it is dead
Buy or borrow a PSU or a PSU tester that shows voltages for 12V, 5V, 3.3V, -12V.

best of luck
