What is the potential for overclocking the 4790K with the corsair h100i? How far can it go?. Also how quiet is it, and will it fit and work in a Phanteks Enthoo Luxe case?
Thanks for the responses

I have a 4790k and an h100i on an ASRock z97 Extreme4 mobo. I run a 24/7 OC of 4.7 GHz @ 1.23 V on the Vcore; however, the temps reached up into the high 90s when running about 5 minutes Prime95 26.6. I can run a stable 4.8 GHz @ 1.32 V, but temps hit the 100 C mark within a minute using the same program. I don't put a lot of stock in Prime (several runs of RealBench and Cinebench, coupled with some extended gaming, is enough for me), but even RealBench was getting upward of 90 C. Gaming doesn't get over 65 C, but the insane temps still bugged me due to the low voltage. Soooo, I decided to delid it using the vice method. The process was a little scary (I booted and only got single channel RAM access; after removing the chip and...

what ever you willing to risk and happy with

4790k with water will do 4.6-4.8 easy some go for 5.0 ...

like i said what ever you want to risk and also your CPU too .. some OC better than other

my can go to 4.6 on air but the temp close to 95 .. ( so i settle for 4.4 temp under 80 and this with easy turbo boot only with out do any manual OC)

ram 1600 OC to 1866 .... done 2133 but my OC get much hotter .. i settle for 1866 ..
happy with it so far .. run 24/7 don't want to risk much

Expect anywhere from 4.6GHz to 4.8GHz as reasonably attainable targets, more only if you are either extra lucky or willing to go to extremes.

Basically, overclock margins are getting thinner than ever since Intel is including most of the overclock headroom in their baselne spec before unlocking multipliers.

The process was a little scary (I booted and only got single channel RAM access; after removing the chip and re-cleaning, it worked fine), but now I top out at 81 C after 30 minutes of Prime and my temps are even across all four cores. I used Antec Diamond 7 on the die until my Liquid Ultra arrives later this week. No OC tweaking since undergoing the delid process, but I will tinker w/ it very soon. As for the noise, that all depends on how many fans you have on the radiator, the brand of the fans, and your fan speed profile. I have two Noctua F14 fans running as exhaust on my radiator and they're pretty quiet at high speeds.

tl;dr: The h100i is going to do just about as good a job as any cooler possibly can on the 4790k, but Haswell's manufacturing process could still hold you back in the end. As long as you're okay w/ "gaming" stable, 4.6-4.8 GHz is a realistic expectation. Still, results can, and will, vary. If I can't get good temps above 4.7 GHz, I'll still be extremely happy with the performance I'm getting.

D15 fans don't exceed 90 CFM, that's why. You can stick on some really beefy fas that will get you noticeably better temps then that. In saying this, check this out -

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cooling/2014/05/01/noctua-nh-d15-review/2

The Noctua NH-D15 only performs around 3 degrees worse then pre-built water coolers, think of the modded twin tower heatsinks performance here.

The D15 fans are only 140x140x25, the 140x140x38mm fans tend to perform far better when choosing the right ones.

You'll be surprised what dual Silverstone FHP141 171 CFM fans can do.

I know, it beats all AIOs except for the kraken X60 and H110, on LGA 1150 and everything except the h105 on LGA 2011 ( at least that's what I can recall, can't check the link ATM) as for the difference in performance, I've read of people doing just that and not noticing any improvement, but I might be wrong
