CPU or GPU overheating?

The other day my system completely turned itself off and after feeling the side of the case I thought it was down to overheating. Since then the temperature of both the cpu and gpu have been relatively high even when doing the simplest of tasks and it crashes a lot more frequently. After unplugging and leaving to cool for a couple of hours I plugged it back in and attempted to power it up, however it took me at least 30+ button presses and a good 5 minutes to boot it up again after plugging it in.

Any ideas on what's wrong or any information that I could post here/programs I could use to help find the problem?

Solution
you have to monitor your cpu/gpu temps on idle and under load to determine the problem. it could also be a power supply overheating which you have to inspect it yourself. gpuz and core temp are useful monitoring programs. posting your specs will help greatly!

Yeah I'm pretty sure it was the power supply as the system won't turn on at all now. I'm considering making a new system now as it was pretty old and I don't really want to replace the PSU just to find more problems with other components
