so i'm just wondering with all these overclocking, does overclocking your cpu makes a big difference? i mean for gaming does it make the graphics better? make the game smoother? what does it really do? i have a i7 3930k and factory its at 3.8ghz all i'm going to use it for is gaming, and i know for gaming overclocking your gpu makes sense but the cpu to me no. any answer is appreciated

If your CPU is bottlenecking your GPU, then it makes a difference. Otherwise, there is not significant boost in gaming performance. The i7-3930K at stock will not bottleneck any single GPU setup on the market. You may need to overclock it when you run a multi-GPU setup.

ok i stress test my cpu with prime 95 for about 10 mins at factory default(3.8ghz) and the temp is steady at 66c. now i can overclock my cpu if i want to but do i really need to? also its not 2 way sli its actually going to be a 3 way sli with the asus gtx780 ti. so would my cpu bottleneck my gpus at 3.8ghz?

i'm running a custom loop on my cooling.
room temperature is 80F
