Hello everyone, my old pc died some weeks ago i am building a new one with new and some old parts i have that are ok, but i always wanted to solve so many problems i had with my old pc and also maybe it could be fun to hear your opinions on the matter:

This was my old pc:

MOBO: Biostar TPower N750
CPU: AMD Phenom 9950 black edition
GPU: 9800GTX plus
RAM: 4gb ddr2
PSU: Cooler master Real Power Pro RS-750-ACAA-A1 750W
OS: Windows 7 32 bits
Cooler: Cooler master Hyper N520 (i used the stock cooler for like 3 years or something)

Now, my problems were:

-that the pc would shut down when doing some intensive things like gaming for long periods.

-Almost every day when i first turned it on it always shut down after a few seconds or when entering windows, sometimes the pc restarted itself or i had to restart it.

- At some point i had to lower the voltage of my cpu on the BIOS to make it stable because it would shut down when my cpu entered full load.

-My cpu temps were 25-30 celcius idle and 45 celcius on full load with the lowered voltage i had to do on the BIOS, without it my cpu reached 50 - 60 celcius and shut down immediately.

-Some times my pc would shut down randomly.

-When my pc died what happened it was that it wouldnt start the BIOS or anything the leds of the board showed that the RAM were not working, well that led wasnt on so...

Your PC is outdated and quite old. There's not much you can do to fix an old computer. You'll need to completely replace your computer. DDR2 RAM is past its days, we're basically up to DDR4 now. Your GPU isn't good enough for games nowadays and I think it came out 7 years ago. There are much better GPUs available nowadays. Most OS's nowadays are 64-bit, no longer 32 bit. Without any more talk I'll just state that you'll need a completely new PC.

How much are you willing to spend?

I no longer have that pc im building a new one, well not full but i will upgrade most of it, not the GPU because the next year DX 12 is comming so i will hold on that 9800 gtx plus a bit more.

But i made this topic to see if someone could give me their opinions on why my old pc have those problems, i dont have it anymore and if you read it died i just opened this because i always wanted to know what was the problem of that old pc.

probably was overheating. the cpu probably had to high of a overclock and or the cooler wasnt adequate. it is outdated and none of the parts should be carried over. probably not enough air cooling components they over heated and that rams time was up

Well i never oc the cpu i actually had to lower its voltage to make it stable, and now i remember another thing that my pc started to do, always when i turned it on for the first time i had to restore the BIOS default values and reconfig it to start using the pc.

Like i said im gonna carry some parts thats not up for debate (gpu, dvd unit, my lcd and keyboard etc barely anything really), i only have the money to replace the more important ones (most of it) right now, besides DX12 is comming next year i would like to buy an specific DX12 card next year.

oh i understand thats good reasoning. but you might want to use onp board gpu then. did you save your bios settings

Im getting an i7 4700k and ASUS B85-PLUS mobo, 16gb ram... but i dont blieve the on board video its gonna be better than having my specific gpu for that.

Also, yes i saved my settings every time i had to reconfig the BIOS, always the first time turning the pc on showed some screen saying something about the CHECKSUM and i believe something about the CMOS.

well make sure its the 4790k same price as the 4770k secondly make sure thats a z97 mobo so you can upgrade in the future without completley replacing your computer parts. i have been on a couple threads with 9800gtx and the intel hd 4600 on board gpu will perform better.

it seems you had a error while messing with the bios. did it work well at first and then mess up after you changed something

Im sorry i meant the 4770k and it was the best i could find in that place and this is the mobo http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/B85PLUS/specifications/ i couldnt afford anything more expensive without sacrificing on something else, and i didnt wanted to.

I never tried to restore the BIOS to a previous version maybe that could have fixed the problem?.

a i5 would be sufficent for gaming so you could save a hundred. the z97 board will have you covered for broadwell and any upgrades you may want to make. it could also be possible your psu was lacking also try that bios revrison

I wanted to go for the 4770k because i tend to use emulators a lot and those are more cpu oriented rather than gpu, and i found that mobo to be good enough for the cpu and my future dx12 gpu when they come out.

About the BIOS, well like i said in my first post, my pc died already, i mean it turns on but the leds of the mobo show that it isnt detecting my RAM so it dosent even get to the BIOS and i didnt wanted to spend money to get new ones to see if that was really the problem.

oh well then all good things come to a end. Pm if you want help with your new build.
