I recently bought an Intel NUC DC3217BY which has only an HDMI port (no audio ports).
Prior to this, I had a normal computer with audio ports, and a DVI port. So I just plugged my monitor in to the DVI port, and my computer speakers in to the audio port and I had both audio and video. Is there some way for me to "split" the signal from the HDMI port and have the video signal go to the monitor, and the audio go to the computer speakers? I'm looking for the cheapest solution.
Surprisingly, my Google searches turned up nothing. Most people, it seems, have a monitor with built-in speakers. From what little I could gather, it seems that I need some sort of external audio card (like a USB DAC?) because the HDMI itself doesn't actually have an audio card, is that correct? So this means I will have to make another big ticket purchase to make my setup work?
