Did you run a test that gives some numbers that proves it or some tangible data to back up your opinion?

Your friends must have been having 1st gen low power i7s. Because none of the FX chips even come close to beating i7's.

incorrect. if you don't overclock that I7, then any overclocked 8core amd will clean it's clock... and it won't even be a contest with a non-overclocked i5. a lightly overclocked 6 core fx should be about on par with a stock i5... a heavily overclocked 6core fx will probably best an i5 in a number of thing. Though i do doubt a bulldozer 6100 is clocked high enough to be "obviously" faster then an i5...

As to the fellow saying "get an amd, be different" i HAVE an amd... fx8320... it clocks like a monster, i hold it at 5.0ghz in the winter here in phoenix... the summers are too hot, so i back it down to 4.8ghz... it will clean the clock of any but an overclocked i7... and i'm also said "at any price over $800 it becomes less and less attractive to go AMD... by the time you're spending more then $1200, i simply can't advise anyone to go AMD..."

i said it because it's true. While my fx8320 does some insanely heavily lifting in most games you're still better off going intel... as even overclocked to 4.8ghz the single core performance on this chip trails a stock haswell by a little less then 20%... sure it will beat down a STOCK i7 haswell without breaking a sweat in heavily multithreaded tasks but in single threaded tasks? or even in 4 or 5... threaded tasks, that i7 will crush this fx8320.

But what happens when we overclock both the chips huh?? Why would I even take an i5 4690k if I do not want to overclock? Huh? Intel chip overclocked gaming performance>>>>>AMD chip overclocked gaming performance. What I am trying to say is that for budget builds AMD is the way to go, but if you have all the money, Intel should be much better.

Oh somebody's getting touched because he wasted his money on an intel lol the worlds most powerful computer uses many amd chips, why didn't they use intel mhhhh

Do we smell a troll somewhere? I guess somebody need to provide data to prove his/her opinion. I can shout illuminati owns America, but I doubt who will believe me if I do not provide proof.

I really hope Tomshardware doesn't turn into COD multiplayer. Too many foul mouthed teenagers with least bit of idea what they are talking about,

Look at this: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html Why isn't any AMD chip even in the top tier of the chart???
Look at this: http://pclab.pl/zdjecia/artykuly/chaostheory/2013/10/bf4/charts/bf4_cpu_geforce.png
The FX 8350 overclocked to 5 ghz cannot even beat a sandy bridge i5 overclocked to 4.5. And the FX 8350 does not even beat the 4670k at stock. I myself am buying an AMD build this week. The intel build I use is an old q6600 which does not even touch all these powerful chips. The world's most powerful chip in the world has an intel xeon. Anyways it does not matter if the world's is intel's or AMD's, since we are talking about consumer CPU's and not highest of the high-end servers.

I don't want to quote myself again... but "sure it will beat down a STOCK i7 haswell without breaking a sweat in heavily multithreaded tasks but in single threaded tasks? or even in 4 or 5... threaded tasks, that i7 will crush this fx8320." And I wasn't even talking about overclocking that i7.

That said the difference isn't apparent... I own this fx8 core, its in my home computer and i've pimped it this ride as much as it can. Every day at work i use top of the line intel haswell cpus... I can tell it's a better chip then a stock haswell i5 or lower. It's actually apparent on an end user level. But once you go to an i7 that advantage vanishes... That said we're talking about a $340 cpu vs a cpu i bought for $130.

Now i use VMs... i heavily multitask... basically i use as many cores as i can... so i'm not a "standard user"... for me the fx8 core is an amazing value. One that will max out any title in 1080p and 60hz just fine. And if that's all the monitor you have then get the amd. But if you have a real serious monitor... and plan on some SLi/xfire then get an intel. It seriously will be a better choice for a gamer

BTW: you seem to have missed how i actually suggested the OP get an intel.
