Hello,

So I'm building a system from old parts I have. I'm using an MSI P7N Sli Platinum and Q6700. Everything works perfectly, except the ssd.

I know the motherboard can run an ssd because I used to use an OCZ Vertex II in it. However, when booting, the POST screen will show that it detects the SSDNow 30gb, but then the boot just hangs there. Also, if I plug in the drive after I've launched the Windows 8 setup, the setup won't recognise it.

However, the ssd works perfectly if I plug it in as a usb drive with an adapter to any other computer, so I'm really confused as to what the problem is.

History of the ssd: it used to be in my tablet PC, but I swapped it out when I upgraded to a larger ssd. It was formatted with the default Windows tool, and that's pretty much it.

Any help/suggestions? Thanks in advance!

MC

Self-follow-up (for any future lost souls): after some research I suspect it won't work with my old system because I got the ssd from a tablet PC, and being OEM I don't think it would be recognised on boot by other systems (something to do with drivers maybe?). In any case, I think the best solution is turn it into a portable usb drive or just plug it into an already working system and let windows use it to "speed up this pc". Best use I can think of for it right now tbh.
