My daughter purchased a new HP laptop with Windows 8 yesterday. It won't connect to our home network even though it works fine with my phone hotspot and also connected at Panera Bread. I'm assuming it has something to do with the router compatibility or something like that since we don't have issues with other devices in our home. How do we make this work? TIA for any help.

Our router is an AT&T 7550 router/modem.

Many new Laptop users with Windows 8/8.1 experience WIFI problems with any connection. Some can connect successfully but only to drop out after an hour or so. If you have an intel wireless card, you can update the drivers immediately at their website for a quick fix. I had the same problem with my Lenovo y510p but after a quick update and restart, network connects without any problems.

Lastly, it shouldn't be your router problem, check what wireless driver you have and update accordingly. Good luck!

in the lower right corner side click on the connection and trouble shoot problems. from my experience with windows 8 it has a trouble associating the right ip address. if you know the gateway out of your router you can set it manually
