I want to buy a new GPU and it has PCI-E 3.0. I dont know if my motherboard can support the PCI-E 3.0.I asked some other people, they said that it theoretically can,but it could damage the card if I have a crappy PSU. One guy said that he has a PCI-E 2.0 card and he has no problems whatsoever. They have also suggested some mobos that can definitely support PCI-E 3.0 cards
So i wanna see your opinions. Should i risk and buy the card now,or should i get the mobo, wait a year till i collect nuf money and then buy, without risking and possibly damage the card
ALL help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

3.0 is backwards compatible and works fine in 2.0 slots. No cards out yet really even take advantage of 3.0 and still can't max 2.0. The biggest thing will be the PSU being good enough for your new GPU. Your MB is fine.

Expansion Slots

1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16

You only have a 1.1 slot.

I wouldn't bother as the performance will be reduced greatly , wait till you get a newer board.

PCIe 1.0 maxes out at 2.5 gigatransfers per second (GT/s) vs. PCIe 3.0's 8 GT/s, your video card may not perform as well as you would expect when installed in a PCIe 1.0 slot.

Basically, you are saying to get a new MB and then get the card?

Yes that is the right choice , get a board that will fully use the card.
