Transfering windows 7 from a laptop harddrive to a desktop ssd

just like it says in the title, is it possible to transfer windows 7 from a laptop harddrive to a desktop ssd, if you need more indepth detail, i want to put windows 7 on a harddrive and put windows 8 on that laptop harddrive, thanks

Almost certainly not.
The OS existing on the laptop is almost certainly preinstalled OEM, and as such is tied to that motherboard.

The question is - how were these OS's obtained? The Win7 was preinstalled on the laptop? And the Win 8 came from...where?

win 8 came from my desktop, i keep getting driver issues so i wanted it installed on my laptop, i wanted windows 7 on a ssd for my desktop, as i will be using my desktop more then my laptop, doesnt matter though, if there isnt anyway round it ill just get a premium copy, just a question, the reason i dont know this is because i know more about hardware then software, what editition of win 7 allows higher then 8gb as ram, because i wanted to get like 16+gb of ram.
