Will a 7200 rpm spindle speed SATA replace a 4200 rpm drive?

What is (are) the determining factor(s) in the spindle rpm supported by a laptop? Is it the controller, the BIOS or a combination of both?

Toshiba Satellite A105-S4344 currently has a (fried) 4200 rpm 200GB SATA, with Windows 7.

Yes, it will work. The BIOS and OS don't care what spindle speed the HDD uses.

The only possible issue I can foresee is power. A 7200 rpm HDD probably uses a few more watts than the older 4200 unit. I fully expect your laptop's power supply can handle that with no problem at all, but just MAYBE it could be an issue.
