My wife cut the cable coming from the satellite, to the genie box while trimming the hedges. I repaired the break using two connectors & a coupler. Now I get an error message "trouble communicating with dish" . Where did I go wrong?
Probably didn't make a good connection unless you used a good crimper and got the connection proper. In addition, any coupler can sometimes degrade the signal, especially if it's a cheapie dollar store one or something.

I went to Radio shack, bought the stripper & the crimper & hardware. I'll re-do my repair & see what happens.
Hi
Take particular care that you do not get a strand of the shielding shorting to the centre wire, those strands are very fine and difficult to see sometimes.
Is it not a usual coaxial cable with connectors in both ends? Why don't you just replace the whole cable with a new one? The frquency of the signal between the dish and the receiver is few GHz and any repairment of the cable is a compromise with the quality of the signal (or even with it's presence) . . . .
