hi there, i want to upgrade either my gpu or cpu but idk what is holding me back from games more, my specs are a m5a97 r2.0 mobo, windows 7 64 bit, geforce gtx 560, amd athlon x4 640, 4 gigs of ram soon to be 8, ive noticed that on most games on gpu goes to around 75 c, on gta 4 i usually run around a consisten 40, 30 when im driving, skyrim is higher at around 50 fps average, i downloaded tom clancy ghost recon phantoms and run it at around 30 fps usually, but i also want to run new games such as watch dogs and bf4, i just want to know which should i upgrade first

Solution
I would. Just be smart, and overclock a little bit at a time, and keep an eye on your temps.
Also, you could just see how they run without an overclock first, then go from there.

can i prevent bottleneck by overclocking? my cpu

depending on the game yeah, dont expect more than 5-10 extra fps though. you get more out of a GPU overclock

When you OC your CPU, it basically performs like a phenom II, but as Beezy says, it won't make a HUGE difference, especially on newer games. HOWEVER, learning how to overclock might go smoother with your current setup, as I learned on an Athlon x2 250. If you do decide to overclock the athlon, just remember to be patient. With a good cooler (cooler master 212/212 evo), that cpu can hit 3.8ghz without a problem. I remember some people hitting 4.0-4.1ghz, but they were essentially using magic. Either way, good luck!

Probably, a little. Skyrim is pretty damn dependent on single thread performance, which the athlon lacks. The 270x will help a lot with higher textures and a few other things though. I still think it's worth doing, then upgrading your cpu/chipset when you can.
