So im building my first gaming PC and was wondering if i should go for the I5 4670K with an Asus Maximus VI GENE Z87 (on sale) or a I5 4690k with a Asus Z97-A for roughly the same price. Is the i5 4690k worth compromising on what i would think to be a lower quality motherboard?

Any responses are much appreciated! :)

I agree with the guys above. 4690k is 2% faster... but overclocking them would more or less equalize them., but price is about the same, so I would get the 4690k

Lower quality motherboard? I wouldn't put it that way... the Asus Z97 has a better chipset, it's ATX, so has better expansion capabilities, has onboard video outputs, and has all solid capacitors, the GENE Z87 is MATX, has PCIe only video, and has some liquid filled caps. The lower price does not indicate lower quality... the GENE Z87 has some nice reset buttons and a MOSFETs heatpipe cooler, it's nicer looking... so, you have to evaluate and decide for yourself... looks vs functionality vs budget.

You have selected Asus Maximus VI GENE Z87 (on sale) over Asus Z97-A

You have to weigh up each motherboard specific functionality with 4670K/4690K CPU benefits.

Sufficient reputable Google reviews on each will aid.

Only you can decide.

...of course, forum opinions such as this will help; but do base you choice on proper review of each component.

If you plan on having a big overclock, then the 4690k would be better for that probably. Z97-A is still a good motherboard. 4690k has better TIM which should give it better temperatures compared to the 4670k.

If they're the same price, probably the 4690k would be better.

Lower quality was a poor choice of words :p, i merely assumed that the higher price tag would offer a superior product (bad way to look at things lol). So after reading over each product more thoroughly and considering what each offers i think i will be more satisfied with the newer i5 4690k with the Asus Z97-A. Thanks for your response and all the other responses! :)
