Media test failure, leading to an unknown error.

Hi there, hope I posted into the right topic.

My computer is an ACER Aspire 5755g the specs are:
8 gb ram.
750gb harddrive
Geforce 540m that doesn't work.
Intel Intergrated 3000 HD.
Intel i7 2,6 GHZ.
Windows 7 Ultimate.

Earlier this day, my internet was really messing up, so I decided to restart and go downstair to get a snack(it takes a while for my computer to start up). When I go back upstairs, I come back to a frozen blue screen, I just shrug it off and force restart my computer, as random blue screens have happened a lot. I try to start my laptop up again and am greeted with a new error: ''pxe-e61 media test failure, check cable''. It keeps happening, so I google it, try every solution there is: changing boot order, changing ''Network Startup'', basically almost every BIOS setting. Then I just start it up and wait, and it suddently passes the ''Acer'' screen, where my only option was the BIOS screen. It asks me to start up in safe mode or normal mode. I try normal mode just for the sake of it. And it instantly freezes on the windows screen..

Then I just start it up, and let it wait, after 10~ minutes it asks me for safe or normal mode, I try safe mode now, where it just black screens for a few minutes, and then opens up the ''Loading Windows Files'' but loads nothing and just freezes, I waited over 30 minutes. Now I don't have the slightest idea of what to do.

Worthable things to note*
In the BIOS screen it sometimes just says: ''HDD''. But a couple of times it said:''HDD (name of my hard drive)''

Booting from CD installation disk doesn't work either.

Sometimes it just says: ''Hard drive read fail, press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart''

Now, I am really lost. Any help is appriciated. I'll answer any questions I can in the replies below.

Hello... can you disconnect the power and data cable from your CD/DVD and see if that helps improve any of your current problems? Have you downloaded or have a copy of your Owner manual for answers and terms to all of your Questions? they cover about everything these days in them... like CMOS battery replacement.
Hello... sounds like the HD is dying. you have plenty of ram and Cpu power... You should have real fast boot time... Try a SSD as prices and sizes are sweet... connect the HD to another computer to get anything important off of it.
2) Does your CMOS battery need replaced ( losing saved settings?)

Hi. Thanks for the reply. Yes, my HD dying would make a lot of sense. Though I don't know anything about the CMOS battery. I'll be opening my laptop tomorrow to check for issues.

Anything I can see on the outside of the hard drive/CMOS battery as an indicator of it dying? Or anything else I should be looking for?

Thanks again in advance.

UPDATE.

My cd drive doesn't work either. Could that mean something different? Also, every time I start it passes the boot screen, some line blinks in the upper right corner, what does that mean?
