Catalyst Control Center problem spiraled to bigger issues

So....

I went to reinstall my Catalyst Control Center (ver. 14.4) to enable the software to work again. My CCC wouldn't open at all. I heard I needed to uninstall my AMD driver and the CCC. I did an Express uninstall instead of a Custom uninstall.

I lost my USB Drivers, thus my keyboard and mouse no longer function at the login screen. The Uninstall got rid of some AMD Usb Filter Driver, but they will work in the BIOS and in the Advanced Start-Up menu.

I tried System Restore twice--two different restore points...both times it failed. I also tried booting into Safe Mode--keyboard and mouse did not respond in Safe Mode either (go figure). I tried plugging the keyboard and mouse into different ports and into 3.0 ports...that did not work. And to top it off, I have no PS/2 ports.

I'm running out of patience, and I'm just thinking and just time Reset my PC for the THIRD time now. Goodbye 600Gb+ of data (games).

The computer boots up normally, but when I click or hit a key to remove the lock screen so I could type in my password, nothing happens.

Any help will be appreciated.

  1. If you have another computer, I hope so, and if you have an external HDD reader, I think you can re install the drivers using custom install through another comouter into you computer's harddrive. If you understand what i am saying, then its going to be fine.

Please reply if you have any other question.

I have a laptop running Windows 8. I don't have an external HDD reader, and I don't know what that is. I can only think of Remote Desktop, but I don't think it's enabled on my Desktop.
  3. how was the 7750 working with the driver you updated from ??
  4. if you un install your drivers and restart your system assuming you have Microsoft update turned on the computer will detect the hardware has no drivers and download generic drivers and install them. after that you can install the real AMD drivers. have you tried this yet?

It works great, aside from some flickering textures in a flight simulator that runs purely on OpenGL. I went from the Catalyst Suite 13.12 to 14.4. I just couldn't run CCC because I didn't uninstall the 13.12 drivers; I installed 14.4 on top of 13.12.
  6. you may want to review all the good luck folks had with this driver

Yes, Windows Update is turned on. I can't tell if the computer has installed generic drivers or not, for I am stuck at the Lock Screen with no Keyboard and Mouse functionality. The only way for me to restart the computer is a Hard Reset. Right now the computer seems a little busy, but nothing happens when I hit a key on the keyboard.
  8. look you should just go to programs and features click on the catalyst install manager and uninstall [express] when it gets to a pop up thing asking if you want to remove all amd stuff -yes- and go back to default windows driver then reboot back to desktop and install the new driver [don't forget to remove the support folder as stated in the foot notes] ..

Express Uninstall is what got me into this mess. It uninstalled the AMD USB Filter Driver. I think I was supposed to Custom Uninstall and delete only the driver and CCC.
  10. all that should be included with the driver I run intel and there in the driver packet I get but just don't install due I run intel

Yeah, it should be in the 500+MB exe. I have the driver packet on my desktop and ready to be installed. I just need a way to get my mouse and keyboard working.
  12. now that's odd windows should pick them up with a default driver did you try the usb port next to the ps-2 port? that filter driver just seems to be a noise filter thing and should not effect basic usb functions

is a Microsoft Windows driver that adds value to peripheral devices or supports a specialized device in the personal computer. It is a driver/program/module that is inserted into the existing driver stack to perform some specific function.

Written either by Microsoft or the vendor of the hardware, any number of filter drivers can be added to Windows. Upper level filter drivers sit above the primary driver for the device (the function driver), while lower level filter drivers sit below the function driver and above the bus driver.

I looked all over amd in drivers and cant find any standalone but there is one from hp from 2008 for it looks like a notebook

  13. I found tis old post of yours so whats the real deal on this

    UPDATE:
I decided to purchase the XFX 7750 1GB GDDR5 after all. It came a day early, I installed it without any problems. (Though, I put switched my BIOS to Legacy mode just in case I got beeps at startup).

THIS CARD IS GREAT. I'm able to run 40-60fps at a resolution of 1368x768. Battlefield 4, Tomb Raider 2013, Deus Ex, Resident Evil 6, DayZ Standalone, Mirror's Edge and other demanding games run very smoothly.

The card's idol temperature at system startup is around 40*C. After playing Mass Effect 3 and going straight into Battefield 4, the temps got to 60*C. Not worried at all. My case is not very roomy, and I had to tie up a few wires so they wouldn't hit the card's fan blades; and at the same time, my computer has my 20" LCD and a desk column on both its sides, so it doesn't get any great airflow through the side ducts. (I going to remove the top layer of my desk soon).

All is very stable. Running AMD Catalyst 14.4 (Stable), and so far no problems.

For some reason I accidentally clicked Best Solution.........

Well 14.4 works fine. I've heard that many people had problems with 14.4, but it worked for me--regardless of overlapping 13.12. Anyways, I decided to Reset my PC to factory settings. Thanks for the help nonetheless.
