Hi

I think I have a problem with my motherboard. The problem is that a few horizontal lines, or dots appear on the screen for perhaps 1/4 of a second, then the screen turns black (still with the backlight on, not the black that the screen goes when it loses signal), then the screen will come back on after a couple of seconds. The computer itself runs fine while this is happening. At the same time as this though, the light on my mouse turns off. I guess the mouse stops working while the light's off, but since the display is black I can't see if the cursor stops.

This problem started about 4 days ago a couple of days after I installed some new graphics drivers. At first I thought it was the graphics drivers as I'm not sure they support my older graphics card (an AMD 6770), but I've since reinstalled Windows 7, from within the OS as I couldn't get it too boot from the disk, and the problem still persists.

I don't know what's wrong with my PC. I don't think it's the graphics card as I don't see how that would cause the problem with the mouse. I don't think it's the motherboard as I would expect more problems/crashes. And I don't think it's the PSU as it should be more than powerful enough to run my hardware, and I've never had problems with it before. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

My specs are
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T @3.2GHz
Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H
4GB Novatech RAM
600W Novatech PSU
1TB Seagate HDD
Windows 7 64bit

PS The problem occurs pretty randomly and doesn't seem to increase in frequency if the PC's been on for a long period.

Well ok bro it's diagnostic time:

in addition to mr ODST's Answer, yes indeed. try to use the onboard graphics. remove the Discrete video card into the motherboard, but before turning on i merely suggest you to, remove and insert the RAM/Memory stick to make sure it will boot properly.when it booted and when it seems there is no sign of the problems you've encountered then IT is the video card that has a problem.

another, when it comes to mobo, a way to check if it is in good or bad condition i'm checking it's Capacitor whether it's still in Good shape or burned, borrow a tester to your neighbor and check it, if you dont know how, google it bro

And i don't really think it is your monitor because i assume you're using an LED monitor...
