Dell XPS 8500:
Intel Core(TM) 3770 @ 3.40 GHz-cpu
Geforce GT 640-gpu
450 W -psu
mid tower -case

I want to play games at 60 FPS/1080p resolution, like Skyrim and shooters! I don't want to spend a large amount of money for the upgrades, but I was wondering if a GTX 780 or 770 could fit in this ? I looked at the measurements and it seems alright, but I want to ask the experts.

Here's my cart on Amazon that I plan on buying :

GPU ; http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GMTGJIU/ref=ox_sc_a...

or

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E5AEIKE/ref=ox_sc_a...

- I was wondering what's the diff in having a GPU that is 2 GB or 4? I heard 6 GB GPU is meant for more than one monitor... ?

Should I upgrade to more RAM? I have 8 right now and I do mostly homework, gaming, and internet.

CASE: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EB6O4N8/ref=ox_sc_s...

I have been looking more and more into PC gaming because of how well a game can look on the PC compared to a console. I always been against it and thought people were dumb as hell when they said "PCMASTERRACE" , but I played BL2 and Skyrim on medium settings and the FPS alone just made me smile from ear to ear.

a 2GB GPU should suffice for most games at 1080p. 4GB only if you've got a monitor res larger than 1080p or running multiple monitors. consider the 280X into the list of possible GPU; can go as low as ~$260 while having more vram & performing on par with the 770.

as for system RAM, if it's 2x4GB, you're good to go. if it's DDR3-1333 & you feel like getting faster DDR3-1600 RAM, be warned; RAM-Motherboard compatibility can be pretty picky.

unless you got some extra cash to burn, you may want to consider a cheaper case for ~$80 or less. because for the rest of that ~$70 or so, you may want to get a new PSU. prebuilt PSUs aren't exactly made to run a powerful GPU & are often of low quality. best case, but least likely scenario; it runs. most likely scenario; it runs with random shutdowns especially during gaming. worst case scenario; the PSU dies & brings the whole PC with it. a guide to choosing the right PSU, so you got no excuse to go with a Corsair CX. go for tier 1 or 2 : https://community.newegg.com/eggxpert/computer_hardware...

i doubt the motherboard supports SLI/CF, so unless you plan to buy a better motherboard much later so you can run 2 graphics card, 550-600W should be more than enough.

use PCpartpicker to pick the best deal.

i'd go with the 770 for a single 1080p monitor. if you don't feel like you can compromise with the graphics option on some games, and simply MUST max everything out, a 780 if you can afford it.

for the case, i was thinking more along the lines of this;

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/fractal-design-case-fdcade...
or any other to your liking around that price point.
