A Power Supply Unit for R9 280X

Solution
Here's a very good resource for grading PSUs. According to it, the Corsair VS series is a Tier 3 power supply. Not the best, but certainly serviceable. Your current PSU is a Tier 4 unit. PSUs are one area where you don't want to cut corners as the rest of the system depends on clean, consistent power, and the safety features (or lack of them) in cheaper models can put your whole system at risk.

Tier three - Meets standard ATX specifications, though closer to the edges than Tier two units. These are still solid units, which still supply stable power to your system, though not ideal for serious overclocking.

Tier four - Not for overclocking systems or high end gaming rigs. May not even output labeled power and fail standard ATX...
